The International Socialist Network Sovintern (Sovintern) is an international association of socialist, communist and anti-imperialist political parties and organizations founded in Moscow on 27 April 2026. It was co-founded by A Just Russia – For Truth, the American Communist Party, the Workers Party of Britain, the Sandinista National Liberation Front and several other parties and organizations.

Sovintern presents itself as an alternative to the Socialist International and seeks to promote cooperation between socialist and anti-imperialist organizations. Despite its name, it is not a successor to the Communist International, nor does it function as a centralized international in the manner of the Comintern.

The organization's founding by A Just Russia – For Truth, a social democratic party supportive of the Russian government, alongside organizations ranging from Marxist-Leninists to patriotic socialists, has led to differing views regarding its political character. Supporters view it as a necessary anti-imperialist forum, while critics argue that its broad membership lacks ideological unity and a coherent revolutionary programme.
The Socialist International (SI) is an international association of social democratic, democratic socialist and labour parties founded in 1951 as the successor to the Labour and Socialist International. It is one of the largest political internationals in the world, with member parties across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Although the Socialist International claims to promote socialism, democracy and social justice, its member parties have largely abandoned Marxism in favour of reformism and parliamentary politics. Throughout the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, many SI member parties implemented neoliberal economic reforms, privatization and austerity measures while in government. Several member parties have also supported NATO military interventions and the foreign policy objectives of Western imperialist states.

The decline of the Socialist International's influence, together with criticism of its reformist politics, led to the establishment of alternative internationals such as the Progressive Alliance in 2013 and Sovintern in 2026.

History
The Socialist International was founded in Frankfurt, West Germany, on 3 July 1951 by socialist and labour parties seeking to rebuild international cooperation following the Second World War. It traces its origins to the Second International through the Labour and Socialist International, which ceased to function during the war.

During the Cold War, the Socialist International strongly opposed the Soviet Union and aligned itself with Western social democracy. Many of its member parties later formed governments in Europe and elsewhere, where they generally pursued mixed-market economies rather than socialist transformation.

People Before Profit (PBP) is an Irish Trotskyist-led political party active in both the Republic of Ireland and the North of Ireland. It was founded in 2005 as the People Before Profit Alliance by members of the Socialist Workers Party (now the Socialist Workers Network) together with community campaigners. The party describes itself as socialist, eco-socialist and anti-capitalist. It campaigns on issues including public housing, healthcare, workers' rights, Irish reunification and opposition to austerity and NATO. Although it presents itself as a broad left-wing party, its leading political tendency is the Socialist Workers Network, the Irish affiliate of the International Socialist Tendency, a Trotskyist international founded around the theories of Tony Cliff.

People Before Profit represents the Cliffite tendency of Trotskyism. Marxist-Leninists reject the International Socialist Tendency's theory of state capitalism, which denies the socialist character of the Soviet Union and other socialist states, regarding it as a revisionist departure from Marxism-Leninism.

History
People Before Profit was founded in October 2005 as an electoral alliance. It expanded during the financial crisis of 2008 and later entered the People Before Profit–Solidarity electoral alliance with Solidarity. Today it holds seats in Dáil Éireann, local councils and the Northern Ireland Assembly.
