The Democratic Party is a pro-imperialist center-right neoliberal political party in the United States. It is the more socially liberal of the two right-wing ruling parties in the government of the United States, the other being the socially conservative Republican Party. These parties differ so little in terms of substantive policy that they're often referred to as the corporate duopoly.

The Democratic Party is entirely beholden to the US bourgeoisie, the capitalist-imperialist ruling class due to its reliance on its corporate donors and lobbyist money.[1] It spends millions of dollars on ads promoting far-right Republican candidates that it claims to oppose.[2]

Even the most progressive elements of the Democratic Party (namely "The Squad") are compromised by the interests of imperialism, and routinely support wars of aggression (notably the Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iraq), illegal sanctions, and fail to push the party to the left as their stated goal is.

History

Founding and early years (1828–1865)

The Democratic Party was founded in 1828, with ideals similar to those of the old Democratic–Republican Party of Thomas Jefferson. The early Democrats were spearheaded by a coalition of slave-owning Southern planters and a segment of the Northern bourgeoisie.[3]

In 1861, the Statesian Civil War started when the most reactionary Southern Democrats declared the Confederate States of America and rebelled against the Union.[3] The Confederacy was defeated by the Union under the Republican Abraham Lincoln.

Post-Civil War to end of WW2 (1865–1945)

After the Civil War was over, with the contradiction of chattel slavery resolved, the differences between the Democratic and Republican Parties began to blur. Both had become big tent parties of the large capitalists, though the Democrats tried to maintain a voter base of various social strata.[3]

Cold War era (1945–1990)
