South Sudan, officially the Republic of South Sudan, is a landlocked country in East Africa bordered by Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic.

History

The United States and "Israel" supported South Sudan's secession from Sudan in order to exploit the region's oil resources, to keep it out of the hands of Sudan's government which was pro-China and to spread chaos in the Muslim and Arab world.[1][2]

South Sudan formally split from Sudan on July 9, 2011, following a referendum that grew out of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement. The Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), the guerrilla force that fought Sudan for decades and became the ruling party of the new state, was built up for years as a U.S. proxy, including through arms and logistics funneled via Uganda.[3]

Israeli intelligence also played a role in South Sudan's creation, delivering mercenaries to fight the Khartoum government. The government of South Sudan, led by Salva Kiir, chose "Israel" for one of Kiir's first official visits as president in December 2011, and in July 2012 signed over water rights and infrastructure development concessions to "Israel" in what was described as payback for years of covert Israeli backing of the SPLA's war.[4]
