| Known for | Anti-China activism |
Drew Pavlou (born 4 June 1999) is an Australian fascist and Twitter influencer who is a vocal opponent of the People's Republic of China and advocates for Tibetan separatism. He claims to have been kidnapped by China,[1] that the Communist Party of China (CPC) is performing AGITPROP against him,[2] and that the CPC attempted to assassinate him.[3] Furthermore, he has organized and/or participated in multiple imperialist and anti-communist protests[4][5]
Political views[edit | edit source]
Pavlou is fanatically anti-communist. He has said he wants to "round up communists"[6] and has called communists "foul specimens of sickness."[7]
Pavlou initially claimed to support social democracy, but since 2025 has more openly expressed his far-right fascistic views. He blames communists and "tankies" on Twitter for "radicalising" him to become far-right.[8][9] He cited the murder of far-right activist Charlie Kirk as the source of his reactionary far-right political views.[10]
Pavlou is a fervent Zionist and supporter of Israel's genocidal war in Palestine,[11] having admitted he does not care about Gaza.[12]
He is also transphobic. When a trans woman on Twitter criticised the imperialist Statesian invasion of Venezuela in January 2026, Pavlou told them "[y]ou will never be a woman" rather than responding to the argument.[13]
Racism[edit | edit source]
Pavlou has a history of racism towards minority groups, namely Chinese people and Muslims.
La Trobe University linguist Gerald Roche noted that Pavlou has made racist comments towards Chinese people on Twitter and Facebook. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Pavlou posed in front of UQ's Confucius Institute wearing a biohazard suit, trying to make a link between Chinese people to Covid. Roche maintains that Pavlou "tapped in to, and bolstered, narratives that racialize and ethnicize COVID-19, portraying Asians as sources of disease."[14] In August 2025, Pavlou travelled to Melbourne and filmed a video of establishments such as bubble tea shops and real estate chains firms with Chinese-language advertising, claiming that they "exclude" English speakers. Many pointed out that the video was filmed in the Chinatown area of Melbourne, a historic Chinese enclave. Many of the firms criticised Pavlou's video, noting that they offered their services in English, Chinese, Cantonese, and other languages, for the multicultural community of Melbourne. Additionally, a lot of the bubble tea brands were Taiwanese, which is ironic given Pavlou's support for Taiwan.[15] Also in August 2025, Pavlou told a Chinese-Australian person on Twitter to "get out of my fucking country."[16]
Pavlou is also virulently anti-Muslim. In the aftermath of the December 2025 Bondi Beach shooting, Pavlou was one of several far-right influencers to falsely assert that Muslims in Bankstown, Western Sydney, had set off fireworks to 'celebrate' the shooting. In reality, the fireworks were part of an annual Christmas event scheduled weeks prior to the shooting.[17] After being called out for spreading disinformation, Pavlou refused to apologise and doubled down, claiming that Muslims had a "track record of this [...] behaviour".[18]
Pavlou is extremely racist towards the Global South and any non-Western person.[19] He believes that non-Western migrants should "[aspire] to Western - often white - political identity",[20] and admitted he does not care about human rights violations in the Global South.[21]
Links to the far-right[edit | edit source]
Even before his overt turn to reactionary conservatism in 2025, Pavlou has close links to and friendly relations with various white supremacists, antisemites, neo-Nazis, and other far-right figures.[22] Most infamously, his failed run for the Senate in 2022 was bankrolled by far-right billionaire Simon Fenwick.[23]
Pavlou consistently praises Australian white supremacist Hugo "auspill" Lennon,[24][25] one of the organisers of the anti-immigrant "March for Australia" rallies. Lennon, along with the other key organisers of March for Australia, was found to be closely affiliated with the National Socialist Network, a neo-Nazi group in Australia.[26]
On 15 December 2025 — one day after the Bondi Shooting — Pavlou participated in a podcast with Patrick Casey,[27] a white nationalist and antisemite who participated in the Unite the Right rally in the United States.[28]
Since 2026, Pavlou has expressed support for Statesian white supremacist Laura Loomer on Twitter. Pavlou and Loomer are both fanatical Zionists and Trump supporters.[29]
Drew Pavlou Democratic Alliance[edit | edit source]
The Drew Pavlou Democratic Alliance was a short lived petit-bourgeois conservative populist party launched in Australia in December 2021 by Drew Pavlou. It made promises of affordable housing, supporting small businesses, and reduced reliance on China specifically.[30] The party received most of its campaign funding from far-right billionaire Simon Fenwick, who donated $25,000 to Pavlou.[23]
The party contested the 2022 federal election in Australia but failed to win a seat with just 0.15% of first-preference votes in the Senate.[31]
After a brief existence of little impact or significance, it was voluntarily deregistered in early November 2023.[32]
Legal issues[edit | edit source]
Drew Pavlou has been involved in several lawsuits, the most prominent being his demand for 3.5 million AUD from the University of Queensland. He claimed this was compensation for being "silenced" after protesting the university's alleged—and entirely unfounded—ties to the Chinese government.[33]
He was sued for defamation by YouTuber BadEmpanada after falsely accusing him of pedophilia.[34]
Chinese embassy bomb threat[edit | edit source]
On 22 July 2022, Pavlou made a bomb threat against the Chinese embassy in London. He was arrested as a result, and detained for 24 hours.[35]
Brisbane protest fine[edit | edit source]
In May 2023, Pavlou received a $1,000 fine from the Brisbane City Council, for an anti-China protest he conducted on 17 May 2022 at the Chinese consulate in Brisbane. During the protest, Pavlou held a placard reading "Nothing happened on June 4, 1989, change my mind", and had posters advertising his failed political party. He refused to vacate the area when directed by a police officer.[36] Pavlou contested the $1,000 fine in court, and was found guilty of political advertising in a public area without a proper permit. The fine remained active, and the fees were increased to $3,113.50 to cover Council fees.[37] By 2024, the fine had increased to $10,000 after Pavlou contested the fine and failed a second time.[38]
During this period, Pavlou attempted to garner sympathy from the bourgeoisie by concealing the nature of his anti-China protest and his lack of preparation, by pretending he held a "blank sign". In December 2025, having still refused to pay off the fine with his own money, Pavlou begged people on Twitter for donations to his GoFundMe, and paid off the fine in 2026.[39]
