The Labour Party (Gaeilge: Páirtí an Lucht Oibre, "The Party of the Working People") is a social democratic political party in the Republic of Ireland. The party was founded in 1912 by James Connolly, James Larkin & William O'Brien. While the party was originally socialist it has since been transformed into a pro-EU neoliberal party.
The party was in coalition with the liberal-conservative party Fine Gael from 2011 to 2014. While in government, domestic water charges were introduced, austerity was further increased, college fees increased, and welfare services were cut.
