Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (26 October 1919 – 27 July 1980) was an Iranian monarch who ruled as the last Shah of Iran from 1941 to 1979. Pahlavi ruled as a figurehead monarch until the the 1953 Iranian coup d'état when he seized absolute power and became a dictator until being overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution led by Ruhollah Khomeini. He succeeded his father Reza Shah as monarch and is the father of the modern leader of the Iranian dissident monarchist movement, Reza Pahlavi.
Pahlavi seized power with Western support and they supported his brutal regime for the entirety of his reign, with him allowing the exploitation of Iranian oil by the imperialist powers and providing a strategic base for the U.S. military in exchange for a slice of the profits for his own bank accounts. After he was overthrown bourgeois media propagandized his rule, ignoring his corruption and cruel practices to falsely portray his rule as better for the Iranian people, using misleading economic figures to ignore the actual levels of poverty.[1]
